Lowest Daily spike of 1.20 Lakh nCOV cases registered after 58 days

New Delhi:India recorded 1,20,529 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, the lowest in 58 days, taking the total number of infections to 2,86,94,879, the Union Health Ministry said on Saturday.
Besides, the country also saw 3,380 deaths, pushing the total number of fatalities to 3,44,082. Yesterday, India saw 2,713 deaths.
 
Daily recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for 23 consecutive days, as 1,97,894 patients recuperated during the past 24 hours, pushing the number of recoveries to 2,67,95,549. With these new recoveries, recovery rate jumped to 93.38 per cent.Now, active caseload further declined by 80,745 to stand at 15,55,248, less than 2 lakh since 9 successive days, shows the data.
 
Meanwhile, weekly positivity rate is currently pegged at 6.89 per cent.Daily positivity rate decreased to 5.78 per cent, less than 10 per cent for the 12th consecutive day, the Ministry added.
 
So far, the country has carried out more than 36.1 crore tests.According to Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 36,11,74,142 tests have been conducted so far, 20,84,421, of which were carried out in the past 24 hours.
 
On the vaccination front, a total of 22,78,60,317 doses have been administered since January 16 this year, of which 36,50,080 were administered in the past 24 hours.
 
Tamil Nadu registered the highest 22,651 cases, followed by Kerala with 16,229 cases, Karnataka-- 16,068 cases, Maharashtra-- 14,152 cases and Andhra Pradesh-- 10,413 cases.
Maharashtra saw the highest deaths in the last 24 hours (1,377), followed by Karnataka (463).
On Friday, India had recorded 1,32,364 new Covid-19 cases.(UNI)
