Record 4K above fatalities registered on 2nd consecutive day

New Delhi:India saw 4,529 new fatalities due to the Novel Coronavirus, the highest single-day spike since the onset of the pandemic last year, taking the total number of deaths in the country to 2,83,248, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
India's daily COVID-19 tally was below the three-lakh mark for the third day in a row, as it recorded 2,67,334 new cases, pushing the total number of infections in the country to 2,54,96,330.
 
On a positive front, 3,89,851 people also recovered from the virus, taking the total number of such cases to 2,19,86,363.
 
Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said that a total of 32,03,01,177 samples have been tested so far for coronavirus. Out of this, 20,08,296 were tested in the past one day.
 
On Tuesday, India had recorded 2,63,533 new Covid-19 cases and 4,329 deaths.

Daily recoveries beat daily new cases for 6th straight day nationally
 
India’s daily recoveries outnumbered daily new cases for the sixth consecutive day as 3,89,851 recoveries were registered in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry said on Wednesday.
 
'The country' cumulative recoveries have reached 2,19,86,363 today. The National Recovery Rate has grown further to touch 86.23 per cent,' it stated.
 
Of the new recoveries, ten states account for 74.94 per cent.
 
India recorded less than 3 lakh new cases for three consecutive days, the Ministry said, adding that a total of 2,67,334 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours.
 
Ten States reported 74.46 per cent of the new cases in last 24 hours. Tamil Nadu has reported the highest daily new cases at 33,059, followed by Kerala with 31,337new cases.
 
Also, the country's total active caseload has decreased to 32,26,719 today. The previous day witnessed a net decline of 1,27,046. It now comprises 12.66 per cent of the country's total positive cases.
 
Eight states cumulatively account for 69.02 per cent of the country's total Active Cases.
 
More than 20 lakh tests were conducted in the last 24 hours (the highest ever conducted in a single day in India), while the daily positivity rate has declined to 13.31 per cent.
 
A total of 20.08 lakh tests conducted in the last 24 hours in the country is also a global record, the statement read.(UNI)
