New Delhi: Serum Institute of India on Wednesday announced the prices for its COVID vaccine Covishield, just 10 days ahead of the new round of vaccinations for all above 18 years that will kick start from May 1.

The vaccine will be available at a price of Rs 400 per shot to state governments and Rs 600 to private hospitals, the pharmaceutical major said in a statement.

“...50 per cent of our capacities will be served to the Government of India’s vaccination programme, and the remaining 50 per cent of the capacity will be for the state governments and the private hospitals,” it said.

SII further noted that their prices are affordable and way lower than the American, Russian and Chinese vaccines which are being sold more than Rs 1,500, Rs 750 and Rs 750, respectively.

The pharmaceutical company welcomed the Centre’s announcement to vaccinate everyone above 18 and said for the next two months, it will address the limited capacity by scaling up the vaccine production. (UNI)
