10 Maha Kumbh devotees killed in collision between bus and SUV in Prayagraj

Ten people were killed when an SUV collided head-on with a bus in the Meja area of Yamuna Nagar of Prayagraj here in Uttar Pradesh, a police officer said here on Saturday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Yamuna Nagar) Vivek Chandra Yadav said that the incident took place late on Friday night when devotees from Korba in Chhattisgarh were going to take bath in Prayagraj Maha Kumbh in the SUV.

"On the national highway, the SUV collided head-on with a bus going towards Prayagraj," he said.

He said that all 10 people travelling in the SUV died in this accident. "The people travelling in the bus have suffered minor injuries. There were devotees in the bus going from Prayagraj as well," he said.

He said that further details are awaited.Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognisance of the road accident in Prayagraj district and expressed condolences to the bereaved families.

He has directed the officials to immediately reach the spot and expedite the relief work and directed the district administration officials to provide proper treatment to the injured.(UNI)<>
