A judge was stabbed to death in the southern Iranian city of Shiraz when he was on his way to work on Tuesday morning, according to Iranian state media.

IRNA identified the judge as Ehsum Bagheri, a 38-year-old who had more than 12 years of experience and worked for the city's judicial department.

The two assailants involved in the attack were still at large and have not been identified yet, with authorities saying they have launched an investigation into the crime.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for stabbing

The news agency called the killing a "terrorist act." No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The murder follows another incident in January, when a man fatally shot two prominent hardline judges in the capital city, Tehran.

Both judges allegedly took part in the mass execution of dissidents in 1980s.
