Narak Chaturdashi 2025: Which Diya Should You Light for Lord Hanuman to Destroy Fear and Sins?

The festival of Narak Chaturdashi, also known as Chhoti Diwali, is celebrated on the second day of Diwali’s five-day festival of lights. In South India, this day is also observed as Yam Deepam, when lamps are lit to honor Lord Yama, the God of Death. It is also believed to be the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, hence some regions celebrate it as Hanuman Jayanti.

According to various beliefs, on this day Hanuman Ji was either born, or as a child mistook the Sun for a fruit and tried to eat it. Some traditions also say that it was on this day that he received the boon of immortality. Lighting a special type of diya for Hanuman Ji on Narak Chaturdashi is believed to remove fear, destroy sins, and bring strength, peace, and prosperity.

Types of Diyas and Oils to Offer to Lord Hanuman on Narak Chaturdashi

1. Mustard Oil Diya

This is most commonly used diya for Hanuman worship.

Light a mustard oil diya in front of Lord Hanuman on Narak Chaturdashi night and chant the mantra- ‘Om Han Hanumate Rudratmakaaya Hum Phat’.

Doing so is believed to eliminate debt, bring positive energy, and remove negativity and fear.

2. Four-Faced Diya

In some traditions, devotees light a four-faced diya during Hanuman worship on this day.

You can use either mustard oil or pure cow ghee for this diya.

It symbolizes lighting all directions with divine energy and protection.

3. Pure Ghee Diya

Lighting a ghee lamp before Lord Hanuman is always considered highly auspicious.

If you are performing the puja at a temple or have access to pure ghee, you can use it for Hanuman Ji’s worship.

This attracts divine blessings and enhances purity and peace of mind.

4. Diya Made of Wheat Flour

This remedy is especially powerful for those struggling with debts or Saturn’s (Shani’s) obstacles.

Make small diyas using wheat flour, fill it with jasmine oil, and place it on a banyan leaf.

Light 5 such diyas and offer them before Hanuman Ji in the temple.

Doing so helps remove debt, overcome hardships, and reduces Saturn’s negative effects.
