Ganesh Chaturthi Vastu Tips: According to Vastu Shastra, placing Lord Ganesha’s idol at the main entrance of the house is considered very auspicious. Ganesha, known as the remover of obstacles, protects the home from evil eyes and negative energies. If you are planning to shift into a new home during Ganesh Chaturthi or wish to install a Ganesha idol at your main door, it’s important to follow some Vastu rules. Ignoring them may have negative effects.

Here are 8 common mistakes you must avoid while placing Ganesha idol at the entrance:

1. Choosing the Wrong Direction
  • North, East or North-East (Ishan) direction is considered most auspicious.
  • Never place the idol facing South, as this direction is believed to attract negative energy. If your main door is in the South, position the idol so that it faces inside the house.
  • West is also not considered favourable. If your main entrance is in this direction, consult a Vastu expert for the correct placement.
2. Ignoring the Idol’s Back
  • The back of the Ganesha idol should always face outside the house. It is believed that poverty resides at the back of Ganesha.
  • If you are installing two idols at the entrance, place them so their backs face each other—not towards the house.
3. Installing a Broken Idol

Never place a broken or damaged idol at the entrance. Such idols are considered inauspicious.

4. Wrong Posture of the Idol
  • A sitting idol is ideal at the entrance, symbolising stability and peace.
  • Avoid a standing idol, as it may create instability in the energy flow.
  • A lying idol is meant for the bedroom, not the main door.
5. Near a Toilet or Dirty Place

Do not place the idol near a toilet, dustbin, or any unclean spot. This is seen as disrespectful and attracts negative energy.

6. Directly on a Damaged Wall
  • Avoid placing the idol directly on a cracked, rough, or dirty wall.
  • If the wall is not suitable, you can install the idol above the door frame instead.
7. Keeping Too Many Idols
  • As per Vastu, only one idol should be placed at the entrance.
  • If two idols are installed for protection, place them on either side of the door with their backs facing each other.
  • Avoid keeping multiple idols together.
8. Wrong Trunk Direction
  • The idol with the trunk bent towards the left is considered most auspicious for the main entrance. It brings happiness and prosperity.
  • The trunk bent towards the right represents Siddhi Vinayak, which requires strict rituals. Such idols are better suited for temples inside the home, not the main door.

By following these simple rules and avoiding the above mistakes, you can invite positive energy, prosperity, and divine blessings of Lord Ganesha into your home. If you are unsure, always consult a Vastu expert before installation.
