5 Important Things to Know Before Visiting Khatu Shyam Ji Temple in Rajasthan

Advertiesment
Khatu Shyam Ji Temple
Located near Ringas in the Sikar district of Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region, Khatu Dham is home to the revered Khatu Shyam Ji Temple. The temple is considered highly sacred and attracts millions of devotees every year.

The grand annual fair is held from Falgun Shukla Shashthi to Falgun Shukla Dwadashi, while Baba Shyam’s birth anniversary is celebrated on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. During these occasions, the temple witnesses massive crowds. If you are planning to visit, here are five important things you should keep in mind:

1. Be Prepared for a Walk from Ringas

Except on regular days, four-wheelers are usually stopped at Ringas, about 17 km from Khatu Dham, during peak occasions and fairs. Devotees are required to complete the journey on foot.

Many pilgrims also carry a traditional “Nishan” (holy flag) from an ancient temple in Ringas and walk all the way to Khatu Dham as an act of devotion.

2. Know the Darshan & Aarti Timings

The temple conducts several aartis throughout the day, including Mangala Aarti, Shringar Aarti, and Bhog Aarti, each with deep spiritual significance.

If you wish to attend aarti, it is advisable to reach at least one hour in advance to secure your place, especially during festive days.

3. Be Cautious During the Annual Fair

The famous Khatu Shyam fair is held every year in the month of Falgun (Shukla Paksha Shashthi to Dwadashi), with Ekadashi being the most significant day.

An estimated 50–60 lakh (5–6 million) devotees visit Khatu Dham during the annual fair. If you plan to travel during peak days:
  • Avoid overcrowded zones
  • Stay alert and follow safety instructions
  • Choose open and secure spaces for movement

4. Online Registration & Security Rules

Online registration for darshan is mandatory during major events and the fair.

The entire mela area is monitored round-the-clock via CCTV surveillance. Visitors must carry valid ID proof, as hotels and dharamshalas will not provide accommodation without identification.

Additionally:
  • DJs and loud sound systems are prohibited during the fair
  • Devotees must maintain discipline and follow official guidelines
Plan your trip keeping these regulations in mind.

5. How to Reach Khatu Dham

Khatu Dham is well connected by road, rail, and air.

By Air: The nearest airport is Jaipur International Airport (Sanganer), around 100 km away. Taxis are available from Jaipur to Khatu.

By Rail: Jaipur, Ringas, and Sikar are connected via railway routes.

By Road: From Delhi, one can travel via Gurugram, Kotputli, Neem Ka Thana, and Shrimadhopur to reach Ringas and then proceed to Khatu by bus or car.
