According to Hindu mythology, Sun aka Lord Surya is revered as the source of heat, light and energy in the universe. His father was Maharishi Kashyap and his mother was Aditi. Aditi's sons are also known as Aditya. Sunday is considered to be the day of the Sun God. On this day, special prayers are offered to the Sun God.
However, worshipping the Sun God daily by offering water and chanting mantras is a common practice called Surya Arghya. It’s believed to offer many benefits, including physical and mental wellbeing.
Surya Arghya: What is the right way?
1. Get up before sunrise, take bath and abstaining from consuming any food.
2. Wear white or yellow colored clothes.
3. Fill a copper vessel with water and put some mishri, kumkum, Akshat, sesame seeds and red flower.
4. Now place a kusha asana in front of the rising sun.
5. Standing on the asana, slowly pour the water from a height while tilting the vessel towards the sun.
6. Make sure you can see the Sun's rays in the stream of water.
7. Be cautious that water should not splash on your feet.
