Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The local branch of Maharashtra Superstition Eradication Committee (MSEC) has demanded to take legal action against Dhirendra Krishna Shastri alias Bageshwar Baba for allegedly making bogus claims of miracles.
In a memorandum to Union Minister of State for Finance Dr Bhagwat Karad and assistant commissioner of police (Special Branch) of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Masood Khan, it was stated that action should be taken against the so-called spiritual guru Dhirendra Krishna Shastri alias Bageshwar Baba, who claims to be blessed by Bageshwar Dham, Bajrangbali, Balaji, and makes claims of performing miracles in front of huge crowds in the name of spirituality and leads them into superstition under the Anti-witchcraft Act and other similar laws.
Big flex hoardings have been put up in the city about Bageshwar Baba's upcoming programme to be held here from November 6 to 8, it said.
The statement further said that Bageshwar Baba claims to perform miracles in name of spirituality, propagation of astrology, cures for mental and physical ailments of people without having any medical degree, use of pseudoscience are all bogus, inconsistent with the value of scientific approach enshrined in the Constitution as a fundamental duty of every Indian citizen.
Besides strict legal action against him, the MSEC has demanded that such a programme of miraculous claims should not take place in city.
Still, if the programme is held due to political pressure, then a video recording of the entire programme should be done, the statement said.
After checking it, legal action should be taken against Dhirendra Shastri Baba as per the law, it added. (UNI)
