Islamabad: In another incident of vandalism on places of worship of the Hindu community in Pakistan, the statues of deities at Shri Mari Maata in Karachi were attacked.

The Wednesday's attack on Shri Mari Maata Mandir located in "J" area within the limits of Korangi police station, has caused panic and fear among the Hindu minority living in Karachi.

The Express Tribune quoted Sanjeev, one of the Hindu residents in the area, as saying that six to eight individuals on motorcycles came into the area and attacked the temple.

"We don't know who has attacked and why," he added.

Confirming the incident, Korangi SHO Farooq Sanjrani said, "Five to six unknown suspects entered the temple and escaped after vandalising it."

He further said that a case has been registered against unknown suspects.

Hindu temples in Pakistan have often been the target of mob violence.

Last year in October, a temple at the bank of the Indus River in Kotri was vandalised by unidentified people.

In August, dozens of people reportedly vandalised the Shree Ganesh Hindu temple in the town of Bhong and blocked the Sukkur-Multan Motorway after an eight-year-old Hindu boy, who allegedly urinated in a local seminary, was granted bail by a local court, The Express Tribune reported. (UNI)
