A female MP of Australia has claimed that she was drugged and sexually assaulted during a night out after a grainy Snapchat video of the incident emerged online.

Brittany Lauga, who is Assistant Minister for Health in the Queensland state government, in a Facebook post, said that she was drugged and assaulted on an evening out in her constituency Yeppoon last Saturday.

After the incident, the 37-year-old Queensland MP went to the police to file a complaint early Sunday. The Australian police have launched an investigation.

“Tests at the hospital confirmed the presence of drugs in my body which I did not take. This substance impacted me significantly,” she said in her statement on Facebook.

She said, “I have been contacted by other women who may also have been drugged in Yeppoon on Saturday night. This could have happened to anyone and tragically, it does happen to many of us. I have had multiple women contact me who have experienced the same thing in our town.”

“It’s not ok. We should be able to enjoy socialising in our town without the risk of being drugged or assaulted,” she said.

She further said, “I need time to physically and emotionally heal after what has happened so I ask you respect my privacy as I get the support I need. Thank you to everyone who has reached out to me in support. I truly value your thoughtful messages, gestures and kindness.”

“If you have any information that may assist the investigation, please tell the Police,” she concluded.
