Bangladesh: Former law minister Abdul Matin Khasru dies of COVID

Dhaka: Bangladesh erstwhile Law Minister Abdul Matin Khasru, who was tested positive for COVID-19 last month, passed away at Combined Military Hospital (CMH), here on Wednesday. He was 70.

Deputy Attorney General A M Amin Uddin Manik confirmed it. Talking to UNI, Deputy Attorney General said he breathed his last at 1650 hrs.

The Supreme Court Bar Association newly-elected president was put on life support after his condition started deteriorating on Tuesday morning.

He was admitted to CMH on March 16 after he had tested positive for coronavirus.

An Awami League MP from Cumilla-5, Abdul Matin Khasru served the first Sheikh Hasina cabinet as law minister from 1997 to 2001.

Country President Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Speaker of the Parliament, Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Law Minister Anisul Haque, were among those who expressed their deep grief over the death of Abdul Matin Khasru. (UNI)
