Global leaders condole Lata Mangeshkar's demise

New Delhi: Global leaders and diplomats have expressed their condolences as the death of 'Melody Queen of India' Lata Mangeshkar on Sunday marked the end of an era.

Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa: “Rest In Peace Srimathi #LataMangeshkar, India's Queen of Music who touched billions of hearts through her golden and unparalleled voice. A legend whose memory will remain in our midst for centuries through her melodious voice.”

Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Mahinda Rajapaksa tweeted: "Rest In Peace Nightingale of India, Lata Mangeshkar. Thank you for the decades of entertainment that transcended borders and gave life to the phrase 'music is a universal language'.
"My deepest condolences to her family and the people of India. Her memory will live through her music." Pakistan's Minister for information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhary said she was the "uncrowned queen of music". Chaudhary said in his tweet, "A legend is no more, Lata Mangeshkar was a melodious queen who ruled the world of music for decades she was uncrowned queen of music her voice shall keep ruling the Hearts of people for all times to come RIP Lata Mangeshker."

German Ambassador to India and Bhutan Walter J. Lindner also tweeted Mangeshkar's saying in Hindi, "Meri Awaaz Hi, Pehchaan hai..Gar Yaad Rahe.."Nightingale of India Lata Mangeshkar Singer and musical genius passes away at the age of 92. A legend, an irreplaceable voice and an institution of music for 7 decades! Very sad news.. her legacy will live forever.. RIP Lata Mangeshkar ji" along with folded hands and candle emojis.

The Israel Embassy in India in a tweet said: "We are saddened to hear about the demise of the Nightingale of India, #LataMangeshkar Ji. Her contribution to music and her voice will always be remembered. We join the people of India in mourning. May her memory be a blessing. ? ?????."

Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysian leader, wrote in Tweet: “My immense sorrow over the news of the passing of Lata Mangeshkar earlier today is only matched by the awe I feel over seeing what one woman can accomplish in 92 years on this planet.”

The 'Melody Queen' passed away after battling with Covid-19 and its complication for 28 days at a hospital in Mumbai at the age of 92. (UNI)
