US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he prevented a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan, listing it among what he described as major achievements during the first year of his second term in office.

Speaking at a lengthy White House news conference marking one year since his return to power, Trump said the two nuclear-armed neighbours were “going to go nuclear” and asserted that his intervention helped save millions of lives.

“I ended eight unendable wars in 10 months,” Trump said, naming conflicts involving Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda, and India and Pakistan. “They were really going at it. Eight planes were shot down. In my opinion, they were going to go nuclear.”

Trump told reporters that Pakistan’s prime minister, who visited Washington last year, had credited him with saving “10 million people, and maybe much more than that,” noting that both India and Pakistan possess nuclear weapons.

The US president repeated the claim later in the 105-minute press conference, arguing that ending wars had saved tens of millions of lives globally. He said a potential India-Pakistan conflict alone could have resulted in casualties ranging from 10 to 20 million.

The White House also released a detailed document highlighting Trump’s first-year achievements, titled ‘365 Wins in 365 Days: President Trump’s Return Marks New Era of Success, Prosperity’. The statement described his first year as the most accomplished of any modern presidency and cited peace deals, reduced migration, falling crime rates, record energy production, and reshored investments.

Under the section ‘Reasserting American Leadership on the World Stage’, the document listed “brokered peace between India and Pakistan” as one of Trump’s accomplishments since assuming office on January 20, 2025.

Trump has repeatedly claimed—nearly 90 times—that he helped end tensions between India and Pakistan. He first made the assertion publicly on May 10 last year, stating on social media that the two countries agreed to a “full and immediate” ceasefire following talks mediated by Washington. India, however, has consistently denied any third-party involvement.

The president also argued that he should have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for resolving multiple global conflicts, including those involving Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, and Armenia and Azerbaijan. He criticised Norway, home of the Nobel Peace Prize committee, alleging it exerts control over the selection process.

“I settled eight wars. No president has probably ever settled even one,” Trump said, adding that leaders from the countries involved had nominated him for the prize.

Trump further said he was attempting to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war and expressed admiration for Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado, who recently presented her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to him at the White House, saying he deserved the honour for ending multiple conflicts.
