Tokyo: At least 30 endangered green sea turtles have been found with bleeding neck wounds in Japan.
CNN quoted a police official from the Naha Police Station in Okinawa as saying that police began investigating the case last Friday after the sea turtles were found during low tide on Thursday near the remote Japanese island of Kumejima in southern Okinawa prefecture.
Some of the turtles were found bleeding and were barely able to breather as they had wounds around their necks caused probably by blade, the official said.
He further said that the whereabouts of the turtles were unknown and had probably swept away by the tide.
Yoshi Tsukakoshi, a spokesman at the Kumejima sea turtle museum, said that the area where the sea turtles were found was their natural habitat and covered with sea grass which the sea turtles eat. (UNI)
