Joe Biden sworn-in as 46th US President

Washington: Democrat Joe Biden was sworn-in by US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts as the 46th president of the United States on Wednesday.
Outgoing US President Donald Trump did not attend the swearing-in ceremony, as he left for his Mar-a-Lago Golf Club in Palm Beach on Wednesday morning.
 
Trump became the first President to have skipped the swearing-in ceremony of his successor since 1879, when Andrew Johnson skipped the swearing-in ceremony for Ulysses S Grant.

US President Joe Biden in his inauguration speech on Wednesday said his administration will confront and defeat white supremacy and extremism.Biden said after being sworn in as the 46th president of the United States “Now, the rise of political extremism, white supremacy, domestic terrorism that we must confront and we will defeat.”
 
Earlier, Declaring that his era would be a departure from that of his predessesor Donald Trump , the Democrat Party politician took to twitter to say “It’s a new day in America,”
 
Joe Biden, who served as the US vice president for eight years during the Obama Presidency is was sworned in by US Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts today at around noon local time (17:00 GMT).
 
Approximately 25,000 National Guard troops were mobilized as part of enhanced security measures for the inauguration.(UNI)
