Srinagar: Pakistani troops violated cease fire and resorted to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said on Saturday.
However, the guns felt silent since early this morning, sources told UNI.Giving details about the violation of 2003 ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, sources told UNI that troops from across the LoC resorted to unprovoked firing, targeting forward Indian posts in Tangdhar sector at 1930 hrs on Friday evening. However, Indian troops also retaliated and the intermittent exchange of fire continued till 0430 hrs of Saturday.

There was no report of any loss of life on this side, they said. It was not immediately clear whether the Pak troops suffered any damage.

Sources said Pakistani troops are resorting to firing to help infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir before the higher reaches are closed due to snowfall in winter. A large number of militants are waiting in launch pads to sneak into this side, they said. However, the troops guarding the LoC are on already highway alert to foil any infiltration attempt. On August 13, a soldier was martyred after a major infiltration bid was foiled in the Tanghdar sector.(UNI)
