London: A UK court on Thursday ordered the extradition of fugitive diamantaire Nirav Modi to India, saying that the accused is also answerable before the Indian courts.

The 49-year-old Modi is accused in a USD 2 billion fraud case of Punjab National Bank (PNB) which surfaced in February 2018 after which he fled to United Kingdom and reportedly applied for a political asylum.

The Westminster Court today, after a long-drawn legal battle, finally accepted the Indian case that Nirav threatened witnesses and tampered with evidence.

Dismissing Nirav’s mental health concerns, the District Judge Samuel Goozee at the Westminster Magistrates’ Court ruled that he will be given adequate medical treatment and mental health care at the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai. (UNI)
