Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) acting commissioner (head of the special branch of the police) Monirul Islam has said that the police will take strict legal action against those who are or will be holding anti-Modi rallies ahead of the arrival of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Bangladesh.

He was responding to a question from reporters at a security briefing for the arrival of heads of state and government on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence on Sunday (March 14).

Monirul said those who are holding processions and meetings good sense will have to be arrived to hem. Otherwise strict legal action will be taken against them.

Urging the political parties not to give political programs during the celebrations of Bangabandhu's birth centenary and the golden jubilee of independence, the acting DMP commissioner said, “VVIPs will come so I request them not to give any political programs.”

He said there could be some traffic problems during the event from March 18 to 26. I am requesting to go out for an office-court or examination before the scheduled time for this. The people have to sacrifice to some extent for the honor of the state.

The acting commissioner of DMP further said that extensive development work is being done on the roads of the capital. As a result, most of the roads are having traffic problems. On the occasion of inviting foreign guests for the upcoming festival, there will be some disruption in some roads. I am requesting the city dwellers to go out a little before the scheduled time if they want to go somewhere.

Monirul Islam said there are four days off from March 18 to 26, including weekly and public holidays. At this time we will try our best to reduce the suffering on the road as much as possible.
