Kabul: A shocking video footage has emerged apparently showing the kneeling, handcuffed and blindfolded figure of a police chief of Herat, being gunned down in a hail of bullets by the Taliban.

General Haji Mullah Achakzai, chief of Badghis Province near Herat, was arrested by the Taliban after they seized the area, near the Turkmenistan border.

The video showed the balding, grey-haired commander kneeling on the ground, with a cloth across his eyes, and his hands tied in front of him, before being gunned down in a hail of gunfire. The firing by the Taliban continues even after Achakzai collapses and dies.

The regional police chief who fought the Taliban was executed in cold blood by the jihadist group.

Achakzai had surrendered to the Taliban after they took over Herat a few days ago.

The Taliban had promised that there would be no acts of vengeance against former enemies following their takeover of Afghanistan on Sunday. (UNI)
