US President Donald Trump lauded India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling India “a great country” with “a good friend of mine at the top,” while speaking at the Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh.
Addressing world leaders after a ceasefire ended the Israel-Hamas war, Trump expressed optimism about regional harmony, saying, “I think India and Pakistan will live very nicely together.”
With Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif standing behind him, Trump turned toward him and added with a smile, “India is a great country with a very good friend of mine at the top — he’s done a fantastic job. I think Pakistan and India are going to live very nicely together.”
Co-hosting the summit alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Trump also commended Pakistan’s military leadership, saying that peace in the region “depends on good friends doing good things.”
Gesturing toward Sharif, Trump quipped, “He’s going to help make that happen, right?” prompting a light-hearted chuckle from the Pakistani leader.
