Kolar: Following protests by Hindu organisations, Deputy Commissioner Umesh Kumar has ordered an inquiry into a school allegedly allowing Muslim students to offer Namaz in a classroom.
The Deputy Commissioner has sought explanation from the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) on the issue.
Hindu organisations had held a protest in front of Sri Balechangappa Government Kannada Higher Primary School and demanded action against the headmistress, who allowed Muslim students to offer Namaz on Fridays in the classroom.
They also submitted a memorandum on the issue to the Deputy Superintendent of Police Giri, who received it on the behalf of Kolar Tahsildar. They argued that the school was promoting propagation of religion.
The Hindu organisations took note of the incident after they watched a video which went viral on social media, where a group of Muslim students are seen offering Namaz in the classroom.
In a clarification note, the headmistress said she allowed Muslim students to offer Namaz to encourage more Muslim students to join the school. There was no ulterior motive behind this, she added. (UNI)
