Kannur: 9 powerful steel bombs found in paddy field in Mattannur ahead of Lok Sabha election

Kannur: Mattannur police recovered nine powerful steel bombs from a paddy field at Kolari near Mattannur, following a raid conducted by the police in a tip-off on Tuesday.
 
According to the police, the bombs were kept in two plastic buckets and kept in a paddy field.
A woman who went to cut the grass noticed the bombs, and she informed the local residents, who alerted the police around 1100 hrs on Tuesday.
 
The bomb squad and police rushed to the spot, seized the bombs, and later defused them. The seizure of bombs during the adjoining days of Lok Sabha polls resulted in a raid on the nearby areas of the district.
 
The election finale (marking the end of the election campaign) of the major political parties will be held in the evening in the district, and the polls will be held on April 26.
