In what could be a major turnaround the main opposition party Samajwadi Party (SP), which won only 5 seats in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, has taken a lead on 36 seats whereas ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on 33 seats as counting continues on 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

As per the data of the Election Commission SP is leading on 36 seats, BJP on 33 seats, Congress on 7, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on 2, Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) on 1 seat and Apna Dal (Sonelal) on 1.

In 2019 polls SP, which contested in alliance with Mayawati led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), had to settle for only 5 seats, while the NDA alliance won 64 seats. BSP, which won 10 seats in the last election, seems to be failing to open its account so far.

Congress resurgence looms in Karnataka, NDA holds on in Karnataka

The unfolding narrative of the initial counting trends in Karnataka's 28 Lok Sabha constituencies paints a vivid picture of a potential political metamorphosis. It's a spectacle where the ruling Congress appears poised for a resurgence, while the BJP seems to be treading cautiously, according to insights shared by Election Commission officials.

As the latest tally stands, the BJP commands a lead in 16 seats, with Congress closely trailing behind in 10, and the JD(S) making its mark in two by 2.45 pm. This statistical tableau represents a notable departure from the status quo established during the 2019 general elections when Congress clinched a mere solitary seat out of the state's comprehensive 28.
