Ahmedabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi cast his vote on Tuesday in the third phase of Lok Sabha election here in his home state. Union Minister Amit Shah, who is in the fray from Gandhinagar, also exercised his franchise.

The prime minister cast his vote at the Nishan Higher Secondary School in Ranip, here in Gujarat.

PM Modi was welcomed by Shah as he arrived to vote. Modi raised his inked finger for a huge crowd of voters who were waiting in queue.

He appealed to the citizen to vote in large numbers after he cast his vote. "Today is voting for 3rd phase of Lok Sabha Election 2024. I appeal to countrymen that they should vote in large numbers," he said.

"There is great importance of 'Daan' in our country and in the same spirit, the countrymen should vote as much as possible. Four rounds of voting are still remaining. As a voter in Gujarat, this is the only place where I vote regularly and Amit Bhai is contesting from here as a Bharatiya Janata Party candidate...," Modi says.

Modi walked down a kilometre or so as he mingled with the crowd. He interacted with a disabled voter and listened to her from across the barrier as he stroked her head.

An elderly woman also tied a rakhi to PM Modi as he greets people.

The PM also held a child in his hand, which prompted onlookers to say he is already seeking voters from 2047, a year which is very much in his view as a centenary year of India's independence.
