Varanasi: Prime Minister and local MP Narendra Modi on Tuesday filed nomination as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Varanasi parliamentary constituency for the third time on Tuesday.
The PM reached Varanasi Collectorate District Court at around 12 noon and filed his nomination. His proposers Ganeshwar Dutt Shastri and Sanjay Sonkar along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath were present at the time of the nomination.
This is the third time Modi is seeking reelection from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat. Before this, he won the general election from here with a record margin in the 2014 and 2019.
Ahead of filing his nomination, he went to Dasashwamedh Ghat and offered prayers to Ganga and performed aarti. After this he took a cruise ride and reached Kal Bhairav Temple, also known as Kotwal of Kashi, and sought his blessings and permission for nomination.
Before the PM reached the nomination venue, BJP President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states and prominent leaders and officials of BJP and constituent parties had registered their presence there.
Modi reached Varanasi on a two-day visit to his parliamentary constituency on Monday.
