After facing backlash for his “Muslims should get reservation" statement, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav clarified that “It is social-based and not religion-based".

Lalu Prasad Yadav said, "I implemented the 'Mandal Commission'. The basis for reservation is social. Religion cannot be a basis for reservation. Atal Bihari Vajpayee constituted the Constitution Review Commission."

Earlier, strongly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his allegation that INDIA bloc would extend reservation to Muslims from the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) quota in government services at national level if voted to power, Prasad told media persons that the Muslims should definitely be given reservation.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi was adamant to wipe out Constitution and reservation and it has been well understood by the people, " he pointed out.

To a query regarding Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that Lalu regime like "Jungle Raj" would prevail at national level if INDIA bloc is voted to power, the RJD chief said the BJP was trying to "mislead and instigate" the people.

" During the last two phases of polling for Lok Sabha election, trend was in favour of INDIA bloc, " he claimed.

PM Modi has been making allegations that the INDIA bloc would dilute the quota of OBCs and allot the same to Muslims if voted to power.

The Congress government in Karnataka had done the same and the party would also replicate it at national level if voted to power, the PM has been alleging during electioneering.
