In conventional politics, it is said that throne of Delhi passes through Uttar Pradesh. In other words, It is the biggest state of India with maximum Lok Sabha seats. It is considered a swing state as SP and BSP used to come into power after every 5 years.

In the 2014 LS election, BJP won a mammoth 71 seats and 5 seats were won by SP, the party which was in power in the state back then. 2 seats were won by Congress and BSP drew a blank. The saffron party reciprocated this performance in the state assembly election in 2017. BJP came into the power in the state after 14 years and Yogi Adityanath was appointed as Chief Minister.
