According to Hindu beliefs, once every day, Goddess Saraswati — the goddess of wisdom, knowledge, and speech — is said to sit on our tongue. You may have often heard people say, “Always speak good words — who knows when Goddess Saraswati might be on your tongue!” As per scriptures, the words spoken when Goddess Saraswati sits on our tongue always turn out to be true. But when does this happen? Very few people actually know this.
According to ancient texts, Goddess Saraswati resides on our tongue during Brahma Muhurat — the sacred time that begins about one and a half hours before sunrise, roughly between 3:30 AM and 5:30 AM.
This is considered the most auspicious period for yoga, meditation, and spiritual practice. It’s believed that whatever we say during this time carries immense energy and significance. Hence, one should be mindful and speak consciously during Brahma Muhurat.
Speak Only Positive Words
During Brahma Muhurat, it’s said that only positive and kind words should be spoken. Doing so ensures that positive outcomes manifest in our life. Speaking negatively or ill about others during this time is discouraged, as it can have adverse effects on one’s own life.
What to Do During Brahma Muhurat
There are three important things one should do during Brahma Muhurat:
1. Remember your Ishta Devata (personal deity) with devotion and gratitude.
2. Meditate to calm the mind and connect with higher consciousness.
3. Chant mantras or prayers, as this is the most powerful time for spiritual vibrations.
If practiced daily, these activities bring immense peace and clarity to life — a kind of tranquility that cannot be found anywhere else. Every action performed during Brahma Muhurat should therefore be done with awareness and good intention.
