Avoid Lighting a Diya on This Day

According to religious beliefs, you should neither offer water nor light a diya near the Tulsi plant on Sundays. It is believed that on this day, Tulsi Mata observes a fast dedicated to Lord Vishnu, and lighting a diya may interrupt her sacred observance.

Lighting a diya near Tulsi is also considered inauspicious during solar and lunar eclipses. On such days, Tulsi leaves should also not be plucked, as this may displease Goddess Lakshmi and bring difficulties into one’s life. 

Follow These Rules During Pitru Paksha

Special rules related to Tulsi must be observed during Pitru Paksha (the fortnight dedicated to ancestors). It is believed that adhering to these guidelines helps receive the blessings of one’s forefathers.

During Pitru Paksha, touching the Tulsi plant is strictly prohibited. Also, Tulsi leaves should never be plucked during this period, as doing so is believed to anger the ancestors, resulting in negative consequences.
