Bhubaneswar: President Droupadi Murmu, on Monday, offered prayers at the famous Nilamadhav Temple in Kantilo, located in Odisha’s Nayagarh district.
The President, who arrived at Biju Patnaik International Airport, flew to Nayagarh in a special Air Force helicopter to offer prayers to Lord Nilamadhav, who holds a central position in the cult of Lord Jagannath.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also accompanied the President to the temple and offered prayers to the Lord.
Nilamadhav Temple is a famous Lord Vishnu temple located on the banks of the Mahanadi River in Kantilo, Odisha. It is situated near twin hills and is surrounded by a forest. A permanent flow of holy water from the feet of Lord Nilamadhav is another major attraction of the site.
This marks Murmu’s maiden visit to the temple as the President of India.
The President also held discussions with the Sevayats (priests) of the temple before leaving for Kaliapali, where she will grace the Foundation Day of the Bharatiya Biswabasu Shabar Samaj Foundation as the Chief Guest.
The President will return to Bhubaneswar in the evening and stay at Raj Bhavan tonight. She will leave for Delhi on Tuesday morning.
