Puri: Pick-up van goes out of control as driver suffers fits, hits 2 devotees near Jagannath temple

Puri: Two persons of a family were admitted to the hospital with serious injuries after a pickup van hit them near the Nandighosh rath construction site on Badadanda on Monday.

According to police sources, the accident occurred when family members were queuing to see the grand kitchen and offer prayers to other deities in the Sri Mandir complex since Lord Jagannath and his siblings are in the Anasarghar (sickroom).

Police identified the injured devotees as Vaijayanti Sahu and her brother-in-law Girish Sahu of Luhamunda village of Angul district.

Local people rushed the injured persons to the district headquarters hospital soon after the hospital.

Preliminary medical examination revealed left leg of Vaijayanty and the right hand of Girish are fractured.

Sources said the driver of the van had fits and he became senseless while driving. As a result, the vehicle went out of control and hit the devotees.

Simhadwar police registered a case, detained the driver and investigated the incident. (UNI)
