1984 anti-Sikh riots: SC rejects interim bail plea of Sajjan Kumar

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected an interim bail application by former Congress leader Sajjan Kumar, who is serving a life-term in connection with the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.

He had sought interim bail on medical grounds. However, the bench of Justices SK Kaul and MM Sundresh rejected the plea stating his condition is stable now and getting better.

During the hearing, Justice Kaul told the lawyer representing Sajjan Kumar that the applicant has committed a heinous crime, and how he can expect VIP facilities.

The 75-year-old former Congress leader was convicted in the brutal killing of five members of a family in Delhi's Raj Nagar, and setting a gurdwara on fire on November 1, 1984. Kumar, who was an MP at that time, was the main accused in the case. (UNI)
