Anantnag: Four Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants were killed on Sunday in a brief encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) launched by security forces in this south Kashmir district.

Official sources said that following specific information about presence of militants, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and CRPF launched a joint CASO early this morning at Waterigam in Anantnag.

“All exit points were sealed and house-to-house searches was launched,” they said.

However, they said when security forces were moving towards a particular area, militants hiding there, fired at them with automatic weapons. “The security forces retaliated, ensuing in a brief exchange of fire,” they said.

They said four militants were killed in the encounter. “The identity of the militants is being ascertained. The slain militants reportedly belong to LeT,” they said, adding the operation was still going on when the reports last came in. (UNI)
