7-time MP Virendra Kumar held posts in RSS, ABVP, BJYM, Bajrang Dal

Bhopal: Dr Virendra Kumar – who has had an unbroken stint in the House of the People since the 11th Lok Sabha – presently represents Tikamgarh (Scheduled Castes) as a Bharatiya Janata Party Member.
He was born in Sagar on February 27, 1954 to Mr Amar Singh and Mrs Sumat Rani. Dr Kumar – MA (Economics), PhD (Child Labour) – received his education at the Sagar-based Dr Harisingh Gaur University. He was incarcerated for 16 long months under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act, it was officially learnt.
 
Subsequent to occupying posts in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Bajrang Dal; Dr Kumar was first elected to the lower house in 1996, then in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019. He has been part of numerous committees. From 2009-14, he served as Deputy Whip for the BJP. In the period September 3, 2017-May 25, 2019; he was Minister of State for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs.
 
He has visited Australia, China, Mongolia, Russia and Thailand. Dr Kumar played an active role at the Sagar-based Gau-Seva Sangh Sanstha.
 
He married Kamal Virendra on February 21, 1987; the couple have a son and three daughters. Dr Kumar’s favourite pastime is singing and playing the mouth-organ. He participated in hockey, kabaddi, chess, cricket and races.(UNI)
