Fear of corona virus forces this Indian state for a ban on hunting wild animals

Fear of corona virus forces this Indian state for a ban on hunting wild animals
, Wednesday, 12 February 2020 (12:03 IST)
Kohima:While the Nagaland Directorate of Health and Family Welfare has issued an advisory asking people to refrain from activities like hunting, which, it said, increases the chances of contact of wild animals and wild animal products with humans, the Nagaland Home Department has asked the Principal Commissioner and Secretary and all Deputy Commissioners to issue orders to all the Village Councils reiterating the ban on hunting of wild animals in their areas.
According to official sources, the notice comes in the backdrop of the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus in China and other
countries as a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.

It said, "Available evidence on the Novel Coronavirus and past experience with other
Coronavirus and other respiratory viruses suggest that there may have been transmission
of viruses from wild animals to humans."  (UNI)
