Jalandhar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a strong jibe at the Congress and said that a family in Delhi was running the government in Punjab.

Addressing an election rally in favour of BJP, Punjab Lok Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Dhindsa) parties, which is his first physical election rally, PM Modi said the Congress government in Punjab is being run by a family by remote control from Delhi.

PM Modi said that he has an emotional connection with Punjab. "Punjab fed me roti when I used to wander from village to village as a simple worker. Punjab has given me so much that I want to work as hard as I could to pay off its debt. This service of mine will help make Navan Punjab."

PM Modi said that after the rally he wanted to pay obeisance at Shri Devi Talab Mandir but the police and administration here raised their hands. "They said that we cannot make arrangements. You go by helicopter. I will definitely come again and bow my head at the feet of my mother."

The PM said that the NDA government is going to be formed in Punjab. "New Punjab will be debt free and full of opportunities. In New Punjab, every poor brother and sister will get respect and due participation. There will be no place for corruption and mafia. The law will rule. Hence the new slogan of Punjab 'Nawaan Punjab, BJP De Naal'."

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally, Punjab Police, initiated a major action to prevent any kind of disturbance and protests by the farmers by keeping the farmers away from the venue of the rally.

The police early in the morning rushed to the houses of the farmers' leaders and put them under house arrest so that they could neither reach the rally venue nor make any protest effort against the Prime Minister. The police have barred them from coming out of their houses by barricading various villages in the early hours of Monday. (Inputs from UNI)
