New Delhi: Launching a scathing attack on Bansuri Swaraj, who has been named by the Bharatiya Janata Party as its candidate from the New Delhi constituency, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday alleged that she helped Lalit Modi, who is accused of financial irregularites, in evading the country.

Addressing a press conference, Senior AAP leader and Lok Sabha candidate Somnath Bharti said that BJP's attempts to portray themselves as patriotic have failed.

“BJP has replaced Meenakshi Lekhi, who has been a Member of Parliament and Minister for 10 years from the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, with Bansuri Swaraj. Now, this raises a big question as to why the BJP made her a candidate,” he said.

“The whole country knows that Lalit Modi betrayed the country. Lalit Modi has defrauded the country of billions and is currently absconding from the law to evade arrest. In such a situation, who helped him flee? Who facilitated his escape? Who supported him in court? It is none other than Bansuri Swaraj, BJP's candidate from New Delhi, who supported Lalit Modi in court.

Not only that, after fleeing, Lalit Modi himself thanked Bansuri Swaraj through a proper tweet,” he said.

“Bansuri Swaraj was Lalit Modi's lawyer from 2012 to 2014. The limit was reached when, before the double bench verdict, Lalit Modi's passport was renewed, and he was sent abroad. BJP has made a person a Lok Sabha candidate who is very concerning,” he asserted.

He further asked Bansuri Swaraj how much money did Lalit Modi defraud the country, and what was her involvement? Is she still helping Lalit Modi evade Indian law today?
