New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha was on Friday suspended from Rajya Sabha until the committee of privileges submits its report in the alleged case of misconduct.

Moving the resolution to suspend Chadha, Leader of the House Piyush Goyal said that the AAP leader had lowered the dignity of the house with his actions.

It has been accused that the AAP member proposed the names of few MPs for a house panel without taking their consent in violation of rules.

"I suspend Raghav Chadha from the services of the Council (of States) till the Council has the benefit of the report by the Committee of Privileges," Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced from his Chair.

Piyush Goyal also moved a motion to extend the suspension of another AAP MP Sanjay Singh who had been suspended on July 24 for the remainder part of the Monsoon session.

Singh will also remain suspended till the House panel submits the report.

Goyal said that Singh had indulged in continuous misconduct and had been named earlier also. He urged the Chair to note 'repeated and deliberate misconduct' by the AAP leader.

".... ..suspension order dated 24th July 2023 may continue beyond the current session till the Council has the benefit of recommendation by the Committee of Privileges," Dhankhar said while noting that it was expedient to refer the matter to the Committee of Privileges.

Chairman Dhankhar also said that entering the well of the House has been weaponised as a political strategy terming such behaviour as anti-democratic and unconstitutional. (UNI)
