Lucknow: In a sudden move, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati has removed her nephew Akash Anand from the post of national coordinator and her successor, citing 'maturity' issue.

Taking to X, Mayawati wrote, "It is well known that BSP, along with being a party, is also a movement for self-respect and social change of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, for Kanshi Ram ji and I have dedicated our entire lives, and the new generation is also being prepared to give momentum to this."

She said, "In this series, while promoting others, Akash Anand was declared the national coordinator and my successor, but till he attains full majority, he is separated from these two important responsibilities in the larger interest of the party and the movement."

Mayawati said, "Whereas his father, Anand Kumar, will continue to fulfill his responsibilities in the party and movement as before. The leadership of BSP is not going to shy away from making every kind of sacrifice in the interest of the party and the movement and in taking the caravan of Baba Saheb Dr. Ambedkar forward."

It may be noted that Mayawati's move came after an FIR was lodged against Akash Anand for giving a provocative speech during a rally in support of BSP candidate in Sitapur district on April 28.

During the rally, Akash Anand had referred to the ruling central government (BJP) as "a government of terrorists" and urged attendees to hit representatives of other parties seeking votes with shoes.

It may be noted that on December 10 last year, the BSP supremo declared her nephew Akash Anand as her heir apparent, who will take up the reins of the party after her.

Mayawati made the announcement during an all-India meeting of BSP to discuss preparations for the Lok Sabha election. The meeting was attended by a large number of national as well as state-level office-bearers.
