New Delhi: The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (ICSE) on Friday said it has decided to defer the Class Xth and XIIth board examination in the light of the nationwide surge in Covid-19 cases.

The ICSE said the final decision on the conduct of the examination will be taken on June 1, 2021.

As per the official statement of the board, the examinations for Class XIIth will be conducted at a later date but Class X students can either write the offline examinations with XIIth students or can opt not to write the examination.

The board said it will develop unbiased criteria for preparing the results of Class Xth students who are not opting to write the physical examinations.

As per the schedule, the exams were slated to begin on May 4.

Earlier this week, the Union Ministry of Education had postponed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) class XIIth examinations while cancelled it for Class Xth in view of Covid situation, closure of schools and safety of students. (UNI)
