Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, govt slashes petrol/diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre

New Delhi: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections and before the Model Code of Conduct comes into effect, the Government has slashed prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre.
 
Petrol and Diesel prices have been cut by Rs 2 per litter. New prices will come into effect from 6 am on March 15, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri said on X (formerly known as Twitter).
 
Oil Marketing Companies have informed that they have revised petrol and diesel prices across the country, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas said on “X”.
 
Thursday’s decision comes close on heels of reduction in LPG gas cylinder by Rs 100 on International Women Day announced by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week on March 8.
 
“Reduction in petrol and Diesel prices will boost consumer spending and reduce operating costs for over 58 lakh heavy goods vehicles running on diesel, 6 crore cars and 27 crore two-wheelers,” according to Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas notification tweeted by the Minister.
 
“By reducing the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2, Prime Minister Modi has once again proved that the welfare and convenience of his family of crores of Indians is always is his goal,” the Petroleum Minister said.
 
Reduced petrol and diesel prices will benefit the citizens by way of more disposable income and will also boost tourism and travel while controlling the inflation, the Oil Marketing Companies said adding today’s decision will increase consumer confidence and spending.
 
This will also result in reduced expenses for businesses dependent on transportation and enhanced profitability for logistics, manufacturing and retail sectors.
 
Reduced outgo for farmers on tractors operations and pump sets will also be realized due to reduction in petrol and diesel prices.
