AIMIM's Akbaruddin Owaisi takes oath as Pro-Tem Speaker

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi on Saturday took oath as Pro-Tem Speaker of Telangana Legislative Assembly in Raj Bhawan here on Saturday.

Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan has administered the oath of office to Akbar Uddin Owaisi, as Member of Legislative Assembly (Pro-Tem Speaker) of Telangana State Legislative Assembly.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and his Cabinet ministers, Chief Secretary, and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka took oath as members in the first session of the third Legislative Assembly which began here on Saturday.

As many as 51 elected MLAs out of the total 119 members attended the first session to take oath.Pro-tem Speaker Akbaruddin Owaisi of AIMIM administered the oath to the newly elected legislators.

After administering oath, the Pro-tem Speaker adjourned the maiden session of the Assembly to December 14.Revanth Reddy was the first to take oath, followed by Bhatti Vikramarka. However, the newly elected eight BJP MLAs and some MLAs from the main opposition BRS were not turned up for the oath taking ceremony.

The BJP had earlier announced to boycott the oath taking ceremony, alleging violation of Assembly rules in the appointment of Akbaruddin Owaisi as the pro-tem Speaker.Owaisi was appointed as pro-tem Speaker though there were other senior members in the House, state BJP president and Union tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy alleged.

The BJP opposes the appointment of AIMIM's Akbaruddin Owaisi as pro-tem Speaker as per an understanding between the two parties ( AIMIM-Congress), Reddy told reporters.The BJP legislastors would take oath after the regular Speaker assumes office.

BRS Working President and MLA K T Rama Rao could not attend the oath-taking ceremony of MLAs due to his father and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was in the hospital after KCR had underwent a total left hip replacement surgery on Friday evening.

KTR has requested the Legislative Assembly Secretary to allow him to take the oath on another day. A few other MLAs who were unable to take the oath too will follow suit.

In a post on on ‘ X’, Rama Rao said “Unfortunately I couldn’t attend the BRS Legislature meeting today and the swearing in at the Legislative Assembly because of my father’s medical condition.

Have sought another date from the Assembly Secretary for taking the oath along with 4-5 other MLAs who have also not been able to attend today,” he added.In the recent Assembly election, the Congress won 64 of the total 119 seats.(UNI)
