Lucknow: Samajwadi Party President and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday demanded action against culprits behind the communal violence in Kasganj, while cautioning the government that no injustice should be done to the innocent.'Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath must take immediate steps to restore peace and harmony in the riot-torn town. The state government should also take measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Maintaining law and order should be the top priority of the state government.
'The incident of communal violence is most unfortunate for the state and cause of serious concern. There is no place for such incidents in a democratic polity,' he added. 'This, happening on Republic Day, is unfortunate. People of Kasganj respect each other. We want action against the culprits, but no injustice should be done,' he added.Holding the BJP government responsible for the violence, the SP President said 'BJP has a long history of spreading hate and pursuing divisive politics in the country. The communal conflict in Kasganj is the result of the policies of BJP,' he alleged.
The SP chief asserted that BJP government has failed in discharging its most basic duty of maintaining communal harmony and law and order. He said the designs of BJP to divide the society would never succeed and the alert citizens of the state would frustrate the conspiracy hatched by the ruling dispensation.He said people of both Hindu and Muslim communities have a shared history and both have a role in the development of the state. 'It's the responsibility of the elected government to maintain social harmony,' he added.
The SP President demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation to the family of riot victim Chandan Gupta. He said he would visit the bereaved family as soon as normalcy is restored and peace returns to the town.Clashes broke out on Friday after stones were reportedly pelted on the motorcycle rally taken out by VHP and ABVP volunteers, as part of the 69th Republic Day celebrations. Following the violence and ensuing communal tension in the town, a strong posse of RAF and PAC personnel have intensified vigil in the district, whose borders have been sealed to stop elements detrimental to peace from sneaking into the city.(UNI)
