New Delhi: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday sprang a major surprise in the Lok Sabha when he rushed to the treasury bench and embraced Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was visibly taken aback.
Immediately after he ended over half-an-hour speech during the debate on the No-Trust motion, Mr Gandhi walked upto treasury bench and hugged Mr Modi who remained seated but was seen smiling.
At the end of his speech, the Congress president said, “I thank the Prime Minister for showing me the importance of Congress.... I know I am Pappu for you all but I don’t have any anger against you.”
However, Mr Gandhi’s gesture provoked mild rebuke from Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, who said the dignity of the House should be maintained and that there is no room for any “drama”.
The dramatic interlude threw the entire House into laughter while Home Minister Rajnath Singh and BJP patriarch among others gave a surprised look.
