Gandhinagar: In another big jolt to the main opposition Congress before the June 19 elections on four Rajya Sabha seats from Gujarat, two more party MLAs resigned on Thursday.
According to Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi, Congress MLAs from Karjan seat Akshay Patel and Kaprada seat Jeetu Chaudhary had met him in person last evening and tendered their resignations. Mr Trivedi said he has accepted the resignations.
The RS polls were to be held on March 26, but were deferred due to the Novel Coronavirus crisis. It has been rescheduled for June 19. Earlier in March, five Congress MLAs had resigned.
In the wake of such development and to keep their flock together, the Opposition party had taken it's remaining MLAs to a Resort in Jaipur of Congress-ruled neighbouring state of Rajasthan, Mr Chaudhary had not turned up then.
He, however, joined the party members after some time, but the speculations about his possible resignation to help BJP win the third seat, were rife.(UNI)
