Srinagar: In a fresh targeted attack, a non-local was shot dead in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday.

Police said terrorists fired upon and critically injured Raju Shah resident of Bihar at Jablipora Bijbehera, Anantnag.

“He was evacuated to hospital for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries,” police said.

A massive search has been launched in the area to trace the attackers.

This is the second targeted attack on a non-local in nearly 10 days.

On April 8, a non-local tourist cab driver was wounded in a militant attack in south Kashmir's Shopian district. The attack had taken place in Hirpura in Shopian which falls on Mughal Road that connects Kashmir with the Rajouri and Poonch districts of the Jammu region.

The militants have regularly targeted the non-local workers in the Valley since the abrogation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in 2019. The attacks saw a sharp increase in 2021 and 2022.

In February this year, two non-locals from Punjab were shot dead by militants in a Srinagar locality.

Mainstream political parties in the Valley have condemned Wednesday’s attack on non-local worker.
