Troops thwart drone activity at Jammu's Ratnuchak-Kaluchak Military area: Army

Jammu: Army on Monday said that alert troops successfully thwarted the drone activity near Ratnuchak-Kaluchak Military Station along Jammu-Pathankot national highway here on city outskirts.
 
 
Jammu based Public Relation Officer, Ministry of Defence, Lt Col Devender Anand in an official statement said that on midnight of June 27-28, two separate Drone activities were spotted over Ratnuchak- Kaluchak Military area by alert troops.
 
"Immediately, high alert was sounded and Quick Reaction Teams engaged them with firing," said the PRO.
 
He asserted that both the drones flew away and a major threat thwarted by the alertness and proactive approach of troops. 
 
"The security forces are on high alert and the search operation is in progress," he said.

According to trusted sources, two drones with colourful lights were spotted near Ratnuchak military station between 23:50 and 00:15 area. The quadcopters were flying at the height of nearly 50-75 metres. The quick response team resorted to firing followed by a high alert. The drone returned back. The vigilance of soldiers averted what could have resulted in a dangerous outcome. Notably, The drones which flew back were heading towards the army's 68th and 82nd headquarters.
 
Without much ado, a search operation was initiated after this incident. Vehicles were stopped and on the various checkpoints of the Jammu and Kashmir National Highway by J&K Police. Security agencies are also on the toes, However, nothing substantial has been found so far.
 
On Sunday morning, two blasts occurred at Jammu Air Force Station in which the explosives were believed to be airdropped from the drones leaving two IAF personnel injured and portion of the building damaged in the high security zone.
 
The teams of National Investigation Agency, Special Forces, Police, Senior IAF officers, reached the spot soon after the attack.The matter is likely to be handed over to the NIA for probe.(UNI)
