New Delhi: Days after two terror suspects were arrested in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area, Delhi Police on Sunday claimed that they were tasked to plan and carry out attacks against certain leaders.
The duo allegedly killed a man and dumped his body at different places in Delhi to prove their capability to their handlers based on cross border, police said.
Three pistols, 22 live cartridges and two hand grenades were recovered during the investigation. Both are booked under UAPA Act and arms and explosive substance Act, police said.
The duo comprising of Jagjit Singh (29) and Naushad Ali (56) were arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell this week from Delhi’s Jahangirpuri. They were tasked to plan and carry out attacks on right leaning leaders.
The accused, the police said were in contact with some foreign entities involved in propagating terror activities in the country.
Jagjit was lodged in Haldwani Jail in relation to a murder case where he developed close association with members of Bambiha gang who were also lodged in the same jail. He came out on 20 days Parole. On April 20, 2022 he was attacked by criminals affiliated with Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Gularbhoj in Gadarpur, Uttrakhand, police said.
The accused, Naushad, was first arrested in a case under section 302 IPC from Jahangirpuri. In 1996, he was out on parole for two months. Again he was arrested in another case of murder with his other associates. In the year 2018, after completing 25 years imprisonment, he was released from Jail. During his long period in jail, he came in touch with cross border handlers, police claimed.
Further interrogation is underway to identify forward and backward linkages, police said. (UNI)
